The Gastrofiberscopic and Clinical Study on Gastric Disease


Abstract
The author had an opportunity to study 128 cases of gastric diseases with fiberoptic gastroscope during 16 months from July 1973 to October 1974 at the Chungnam University Hospital and Daegu Red Cross Hospital.
Following results were obtained:
1) Out of total 128 cases, 98 were male and 30 female, while 55.5% of the cases was distributed in the age group of 4th and 5th decades.
2) Frequent pathology of the stomach was chronic gastritis (54.7%), cancer (26.6%), and ulcer (18.0%).
3) Primary chronic gastritis was most frequently found in 3rd and 4th decades and of which atrophic gastritis (50%) was the most common type.
4) 70.6% of gastric cancer was found in cases with the age of over 50. On endoscopic gross finding, ulcerating cancer (55.9%) was most common one and so called early cancer was only I case. Pyloric region and antrum were frequent site (77.2%) of gastric cancer.
5) Gastric ulcer had the highest incdence in the age group of 4th decade and most frequently found in the angular region (34.8%).
6) Diagnostic accuracy of X-ray sudy, compared with gastroscopic examination, was 4.8%, 77.2% and 57.1% in gastritis, cancer and ulcer respectively.
7) Frequent complaints of the cases were non-specific epigastric symptoms and had no special relation between each disease, duration of symptoms being of high incidence in the group of less than 3 months in each disease.
